DeKalb County was named for Baron Johann DeKalb, who was killed in the Battle of Camden in 1780. It consists of over 304 square miles of area, and ranks 25th in Tennessee’s fastest growing counties. The estimated population in 2004 was 18,213. This was an increase of 4.53% from figures in the 2000 census.
In 2002, the per capita personal income was reported at $21,739, which was 70% of the national per capita income of $30,906, an increase of 18.4% from 1997.
